What is tren de la muerte?

Tren de la Muerte or "Death Train" is a dangerous train journey in Bolivia that goes from the city of La Paz to the town of Coroico in the Yungas region. It earned its name due to the high number of accidents and deaths that occurred on the journey.

The journey takes passengers through steep, winding roads with little to no guardrails, making it a treacherous ride. The train also crosses several deep gorges and ravines with no safety precautions, making it a nerve-wracking experience for even the most adventurous travelers.

Despite its reputation, the Tren de la Muerte remains a popular tourist attraction, and many visitors still embark on the journey to experience the breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains and the lush rainforests of the Yungas region. In recent years, improvements have been made to the train's safety features, reducing the number of accidents and fatalities. However, caution is still advised, and travelers are encouraged to wear seat belts and sit on the opposite side of the train from the cliff edge for added safety.
